Renewable Energy Records – US

The US continues to obtain an increasing share of their energy supply from renewables.

Installed wind power increased by 1204 MW in the third quarter. This is the highest amount since the 2008 financial meltdown. Installed capacity now stands at 43,461 MW, according to AWEA. But probably even more significant is that 8400 MW of wind now under construction, enough to increase the installed capacity by 19%. A steady revolution in the way America produces power is underway across much of country.

Elsewhere, the Energy Information Administration reports that renewable energy production in the first half of 2011, or 12.25% of total US energy production. This is up from 11.05% in 2010, and 10.5% in 2009.

Production from all renewable energy sources exceeded nuclear energy production by 18%, and is equal to 80% of the energy obtained from domestic crude oil production. Renewable energy is important to our energy supply, and its importance is increasing.
