Wow. I thought I had it bad when the Ravenswood project built by my firm came in a couple of percent above budget, and 2 months late. A combination of Hydro One delays, and a bout of flu in the contractor’s workers lead to the delays, and higher interest charges.
A central part of Ontario’s electricity supply strategy has involved refurbishment of two reactors at the Bruce nuclear plant. Hydro One has claimed that a transmission reinforcement is required in order to carry the power. The proposed new transmission line requires the approval of the Ontario Energy Board. Yesterday, the Board demonstrated that they will indeed confirm if this transmission line is needed.
Hydro One installed the smart meter at my house today.
The Ontario Power Authority is moving forward on its “Demand Response” program. Basically the program pays large electricity users to cut their electricity consumption for a period of time.
I attended a seminar on Saturday sponsored by Guelph Environmental Leadership. They have an aggressive program to reduce electricity and water consumption.
