The original turbine in the Ferndale wind farm – a Vestas V80 – had had a significant software upgrade that is suppose to reduce torque pressures, and extend the life of the gearbox.

I got my building permits on Friday. I figure readers would want to know. It was quite an ordeal, and took a great deal longer than anticipated. Start early on site plan approval, especially in Lambton Shores, and especially if access is from a Provincial Highway.

My neighbour reminded me that the Perseid meteor shower was on tonight, so I grabbed a blanket and pillow and went out and lay on the deck for a view.

Wind energy uses no water.  It heats no water.  It is a largely unrecognized value of wind in the Great Lakes region, which thinks it has unlimited supply of fresh water.

July had the weakest winds since the new turbines came into service in November 2006.  Production was 598,000 kWh.  The new turbines produced 205,000 kWh each, and the original turbine produced 187,000 kWh, providing additional evidence that the new turbines outperform in weak winds.
